I’ve stayed up so late already, I’m already toast
If I stay up any later I will be charcoal.

Pretend that was witty.

the man I’ve never met

A few minutes with a guitar and a notebook and a very long Letter and I’m sitting on the floor, smiling, laughing softly – so in love with a Man I’ve never met.

the road to the shadow box valley

Coming in through the haze, to the highway of grey, we are pressing on.  The tires fingerpaint the road – a pastel swipe of grey on grey.  And above the grey cloud of sky takes shape, molded by the light.

Then a sound of wind through a thin slit,

the soft rolling of tires

a tissue paper whisper

and we return to the shadow-box valley.

blue mountains

You can never understand the songs of love to the mountains before you stand near the top of one – staring down and out at the beautiful vast expanse that is the world. Here, the mountains, rising up beside and behind you, the valley, stretching out away to the blurred horizon is all a haze of blue.

Rocks beneath your feet jut out and up – pointing to the skye that french-kisses the earth. Two inches from your death. Giddy dread meets ecstacy.

I love you.

I do.

Each of you.

And the love I have for you

is strong

and deep

My greatest joy

And my great ache

5 years from now

Where’re we gonna be five years from now? Who will be dead? Who will be alive? We think we know so much. But do we? Do we know the future? Do we know the depths behind our loved one’s eyes? Do we even see the strangers? I don’t think we do. Not mostly.

“Do humans ever realize life when they live it? Every, every minute?”
